Hopper – one of my favorite flight tracker apps for finding the best time to get tickets on a specific route and watch particular trips. Hopper is only an app at this time, you can set up notifications to watch several trip itineraries. Hopper can instantly notify you when the price of your flight moves up or down.

Travel Pirates – another great site/app for travel deals on flights, hotels, sites, and packages. This app will also send you instant alerts for travel deals and sales. The deals are place specific and flight deals are date and place specific. But if you are flexible you can be rewarded with some amazing packages and fares.

Airbnb – this is an app that we have used to find amazing apartments in Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Greece. Like any hotel/short term rentals site, it is so important to do your research when choosing a place to stay. Read the reviews. Research the locations and make sure they are near what you want to explore, or public transit that can get you there. Be mindful of the cancellation policies, some are very strict.

VRBO – Vacation Rental By Owner – Now a part of HomeAway this is another site we have used to book apartments in France, Spain, Italy, and the U.S. I would repeat it is so important to do your research when choosing a place to stay. Be mindful of the cancellation policies, some are very strict.

Booking.com – some of our traveling friends have found great success in finding deals on hotel bookings by using this site. Good for comparing options in a specific area.
